Rachis

Rachis (Ratchis) (7. Juni), König der Longobarden, welcher den Purpurmantel mit dem Mönchsgewande vertauschte, steht bei Bucelin als »Seliger«. Er bestieg nach dem Jahre 744 für seinen Bruder Luitprand den Königsthron. Als er i. J. 749 Perugia belagerte und von allen Seiten hart bedrängte, wurde er durch die Fürbitte und die Geschenke des Papstes Zacharias so gerührt, daß er die Belagerung aufhob. Unter Zustimmung des nämlichen Papstes entsagte er noch im nämlichen Jahre allen Weltehren, und empfing zu Casino das Ordenskleid, nachdem er seinem Bruder Aistniph die Regierung übertragen hatte. Dreihundert Jahre später zeigte man noch beim Kloster einen Weinberg, den der sel. Rachis selbst angelegt und bepflanzt haben soll. Seinem Beispiele folgten auch seine Gemahlin Thesia und seine Tochter Ratrudis, welche in nächster Nähe mit Zustimmung des Abtes Petronax das Kloster Plumbariola gründeten und in demselben für die Erlangung der himmlischen Krone arbeiteten.
