2S. Sosthenes (28. Nov., al. 29. März. 11. Juni), ein Begleiter des hl. Apostels Paulus, wird zu Korinth verehrt. Er wird als ein im Leben und in der Lehre vortrefflicher Mann geschildert. Ob er zu den 72 Jüngern gehörte oder Synagogenvorsteher zu Korinth war, ist nicht ausgemacht. Wir halten Letzteres mit Rücksicht auf Apg. 18, 12 ff. und seinen rein griechischen Namen für wahrscheinlicher. Die Griechen halten ihn für den ersten Bischof von Kolophon am Hales in Kleinasien, wohin er nach längerem Aufenthalte in Ephesus gekommen wäre. Auf Bildern sieht man ihn als Lehrer von zahlreichen Zuhörern umgeben; über ihm schwebt der hl. Geist.
